Why work with a San Antonio-based concrete contractor?

Because we are not driving in from somewhere else. V Construction keeps its office on Sovereign Dr on the northwest side of San Antonio, open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, so a call or message during the work week reaches people who know the area. Inside Loop 410 and out past Loop 1604, the process is the same: you tell us about the project, we schedule a free walkthrough and estimate at your property, and you get the plan in writing with no obligation. We take on residential and commercial work, from a backyard patio or a front walkway to a parking lot or a commercial slab. Being local also means we understand the ground, the weather and the long summers your concrete has to live with, which is what the next few sections are about.

North side vs east and south side ground

North side

Limestone and caliche

The north side sits on Hill Country limestone and caliche. It is firm footing, but it can be hard to dig and uneven from one spot to the next.

  • Base prepExcavation can take more effort, and the goal is an even, consistent base over ground that is not even itself.
  • JointsJoint layout follows the shape of the slab and where it meets the house, steps and edges.
East and south side

Blackland clay

Much of the east and south side sits on expansive Blackland clay, which shrinks as it dries and swells when it takes on water.

  • Base prepRemoving loose material and building a well-compacted, evenly placed base helps a slab sit on steadier footing.
  • JointsControl and isolation joints get extra attention, since ground movement is what they are there to absorb.

General guidance only, not an engineering assessment. Every lot is different, so we look at yours before we write the estimate.

Summer pours

Long, hot summers are part of the plan

San Antonio summers are long and hot, and heat is a real factor when it comes to scheduling a pour. It is something we plan around, and we talk it through with you at the walkthrough so the timing fits your project.

San Antonio questions

Straight answers before you call

Do you take on both home and business projects in San Antonio?

Yes. San Antonio is our home base, and we work for homeowners, business owners, property developers and general contractors who need a reliable subcontractor. That covers patios, walkways and driveways as well as commercial flatwork and parking lots. Tell us about the project and we will schedule a walkthrough.

Does the ground differ across San Antonio?

It can. The north side sits on Hill Country limestone and caliche, while much of the east and south side sits on expansive Blackland clay that shrinks and swells with moisture. That is why base prep and joint layout get a close look at the walkthrough. This is general guidance, not an engineering assessment of your lot.

How does summer heat affect scheduling a pour?

San Antonio summers are long and hot, and heat is a real factor when planning a pour. We plan around it rather than ignore it, and we talk through timing with you at the walkthrough. If your project is flexible, tell us, because that gives us more room to schedule it well.

When can I reach the San Antonio office?

The office is open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and we respond during business hours. Estimates are free and come with no obligation: you tell us about the project, we schedule a walkthrough, and then you receive a written estimate. A message sent over the weekend is answered at the start of the work week.
